Carl J. Herman has practiced
law in New Jersey for over 25 years. He opened the law firm of Carl J. Herman, Esq. in Livingston, New Jersey in March of
1986 after seven years of practice with the office of the Public Defender, Essex Region.
He received
his J.D. from George Washington University School of Law in 1976, and a B.A. from Brown University in 1972. He clerked for
the Honorable Raymond W. Young, J.S.C. and served as an Assistant Deputy Public Advocate under Stanley C. Van Ness in the
Mental Health Division of the Public Advocate.
He was awarded
Criminal Defense Lawyer of the Year by the Essex County Bar Association for 1998. He has been a trustee of the Association
of Criminal Defense Lawyers of New Jersey since 1995.
He has appeared
on Court TV as a guest commentator and has taught as a guest lecturer at Seton Hall Law School.
He was the subject
(April 2003) of a profile in The American Lawyer and has appeared on 60 Minutes II as a commentator.
